Presentations from the York seminar are now available here or directly on Slideshare.

INCA, in collaboration with NYNet and MDDA, hosted a half day seminar on the Models for Next Generation Broadband on Thursday 24 November 2011 in York.

This is a half day briefing session invaluable for anyone at senior level in local authorities, involved in the planning and delivery of next generation access networks or services.

Speakers include:
    •    David Cullen, CEO of NYnet
    •    Dave Carter, Head of Manchester Digital Development Agency and Chair of INCA
    •    Malcolm Corbett, CEO of INCA

North Yorkshire
North Yorkshire County Council is one of the four original BDUK pilots for superfast and standard broadband roll out. The procurement process is led by NYNet, a wholly owned subsidiary of the council, highly regarded by many commercial bidders for their understanding the issues and clarity of their needs and desired outcomes. NYnet is actively exploring two models for investment: Gap Funding and Public Sector Design, Build & Operate.

Manchester
Manchester City Council is leading the way in providing a high speed fibre network for key sites and in the city. The 'Corridor Project' is aimed at driving economic growth and will connect up 1000 businesses and homes in a key regeneration area. The network is owned by the city council and operated by private sector partner Geo.

Community Models
Local communities are expected to play a full role in helping make the case for next generation broadband as customers, demand stimulators or even as investors. Different models and examples are emerging in the UK and around Europe for 'Bottom Up Broadband' initiatives stimulating local involvement.

The event provided an opportunity for local authority and community broadband leaders to learn how the different models work and gain insight into the practical experiences and expectations of the public, private and community players.

The event was free to attend for INCA members & supporters, local authority managers, councillors and local community reps.
