An intensive one-day strategy workshop for Tier 1 and 2 operators with the renowned analyst Benoit Felten.
2018 saw signifiicant growth in the altnet sector with more than £3bn of investment committed to building new digital infrastructure. Altnets continue to deliver at pace with more than 1m premises able access full fibre and up to 2m within potential coverage of wireless networks.
The next two years will be crucial for the digital infrastructure sector and the altnets in particular. We have the green light from policy-makers and investors, and Ofcom recognises the growing importance of the competitive challengers. However there are a number of issues, big and small that we need to tackle if we are to ensure that the playing field is reasonably level, and investments are put to the best possible use. At the highest level Brexit issues loom over the sector (and indeed the whole country), with concerns about access to labour and the future regulatory environment at the fore.
Many of the challenges were raised in the recent lunch event with Sharon White. This workshop will focus on a range of topics including:
- Which model of infrastructure competition will best serve the country
- How can we make best use of existing assets to build new networks, passive infrastructure
- How to accelerate barrier busting
- How to ensure consumer choice and cross-platform switching
- The dynamics of copper switch-off
- How to make the best use of wireless spectrum
- Lessons from LFFN and 5G trials
Participants can raise other issues that they would like to see discussed. This event is designed for INCA members who are building and operating networks, to provide key insights about the future shape of the sector. INCA Board members will also be involved in the workshop, enabling us to embed the outcomes of the workshop into our own strategic planning.
The Strategy workshop will be facilitated by Benoit Felten of Diffraction Analysis and is open to all Tier 1 and Tier 2 operators, and to other members by invitation.
