The Telecoms Security Bill: What it means for Network Operators

Telecoms Security Bill : the implications for network operators

The second part of this important event – a detailed workshop looking at how to prepare your organisation to handle the implementation of this legislation – is in preparation. We are currently awaiting more detail from government, prior to announcing the date for the follow-up event

The Telecom Security Bill is entering the final stages of the parliamentary process. In anticipation of this, and in preparation for the consultation that will follow, INCA is running a two-part seminar/workshop programme.

Ahead of the Bill becoming law in October, the first event (September 14th) will provide INCA members with an introduction to the key aspects of the framework, provide an assessment of the impact of the new law and help with steps to get prepared.

The framework set out in the Bill will provide the Government and Ofcom with significant new powers to intervene in how telecommunications companies run their business, manage supply chains and design or operate networks. Crucially, these new powers will not just apply to large and established companies, INCA members will be expected to comply. You may already be aware that this includes new rules to limit the use of high risk vendors, but there will also be significant new security obligations placed on operators.

In addition to providing an initial assessment, the session will also put INCA and its members into a strong position to engage with the substantial consultation exercise that will follow once the Bill becomes law. At that point, we will run a second, more detailed workshop event to discuss and develop an INCA-coordinated response to the consultation.

The seminar and workshop will be presented by Till Sommer, Associate Director at Political Intelligence. Till and his colleagues have deep knowledge of the telecoms and digital infrastructure sectors and have been closely following the progress of the bill through Parliament.

Draft Agenda for the First Seminar

  • Welcome and introduction : Malcolm Corbett, INCA CEO
  • An overview of the Telecoms Security Bill
  • The implications of the bill for network operators and service providers
  • What you need to do to prepare
  • Q&A

An agenda for the second event, focussed on the consultation, will be be developed once we have sight of the detail of the consultation.

This is an essential two-part event for everyone in the sector with responsibility for compliance, bringing you up to speed with the current state of play with the bill, and how it will impact your organisation.

Pricing: £300 + VAT per person (for members), £450+ VAT for non-members.

The fee covers participation in both the September seminar and the second detailed workshop event, currently planned for the week commencing November 15th (this date may change, subject to the timetable of the Bill and the publication of the consultation once the Bill becomes law).
